To miss the wood for mushrooms!

What do corn, canola and grain have in common? That’s right, bad harvests when the weather is wet, which everyone knows by now. But one species fights back against poor forcasts: mushrooms.

For many years yellow boletuses, sheathed woodtufts and chanterelles haven’t grown as well as this year. Off go the mushroom collectors before the next stable high can spoil the early picking season. One thing has to be mentioned: Not all mushrooms are edible. So check first if you can eat the mushroom, so you end up in the kitchen instead of in hospital. Never overestimate your expertise and prepare only the mushrooms you know really well. Many mushroom experts offer their services. The German Society for Mycology has compiled an address list for all of Germany. You can find out in guided tours and lessons which mushroom is edible and which is not. In addition, you will receive many tips for preparing mushrooms. It is also important to only collect the amount for one’s own need in order to not endanger the crop. The proper technique for collecting is to carefully cut the mushroom instead of tearing it out. This prevents the mesh of the mushroom in the soil from being damaged.

Oh, and, did you know that picking mushrooms has become trendy? It is no longer being regarded as a special hobby for geeky eccentrics. More and more young people have become enthusiastic about bringing in their own mushroom crop.
